BRIGHTON BEST: L9

L9 Design features

  • Thicker than standard bolt head adds wrenching surface

  • Washer face eliminates corner drag

  • Radius under bolt head adds strength

  • Countersunk washer I.D. centers the washer against the bolt head bearing surface during tightening

  • UNR radiused root thread, doubles fatigue life of threads by reducing stress concentrations and avoiding sharp corners where failures may start

  • Smooth washer bearing surfaces distribute loads uniformly. Plated finish assists torquing

  • Chamfers eliminate corner drag

  • Thicker than standard nut side walls facilitate wrenching. Heat treating helps prevent splitting and stripping

  • Collared L9 prevailing torque locknut for assemblies subject to vibration

The Advantages of L9
20% increase in tensile strength. This translates to stronger joints, which means less maintenance & repair L9 delivers a greater clamp load than Grade 8.
Both fewer fasteners & smaller diameters can be selected, further increasing design economy.
L9 loads up fast! Why? Because it is a complete system designed to work together thicker than standard hex heights improve wrenchability and reduce slippage and rounding corner difficulties.
Standard Flat Washers do not have double countersunk I.D. which can lead to sharp edge interference on bolt fillet radii.
Unlike other bolting systems, where users are generally left to figure out the proper Torque for themselves, L9 is specific regarding installation torque & resultant clamp loads all the way down to the box!
